August 21, 2019
Dear Sister Smoot and Parents,
We make reservations for flights three months
ahead of departure, and I have a few questions. (For both missionaries and
parents)
Confirm the departure date the mission has
scheduled for you.
Which airport is most convenient for your
arrival? We need this information even if your family is planning to come
out to the MBM to pick you up.*
We will need an update if your family has
moved in the time you has been serving. If you haven’t already done so,
please send the new address and contact information.
Please verify the email addresses of parents
so they can receive a copy of your itinerary.
Please let us know if there are any changes
to your Stake President and Bishop.
Your departure date is 22 Nov.
2019. I can’t begin the flight arrangements until I hear back from
you.
*Please be aware that it is discouraged for
families to pick up their missionary at the end of their mission (see the note
from the Missionary Department) and they will need President Mavromatis’
approval.
From the Missionary Department…
The Church discourages parents from picking
up their missionary. However, if they do request this privilege,
parents must understand that:
Their plans must be based on the missionary’s
release date and mission schedule.
They are expected to make their own
arrangements, including travel, lodging and meals. The Mission President and
his wife do not host families in the mission home or make any other
arrangements for them.
Departing Missionaries must understand that
they are not to impose on members, missionaries, or other missions as they
travel and that they are to dress and conduct themselves as
missionaries. Departing missionaries are not to impose on missionaries
currently serving in the field. They should understand and support current
missionaries in ‘the importance of maintaining singleness of heart and mind on
the work of the Lord.’
Also, if your family is planning on picking
you up, be aware that you can be picked up at the mission home between 8 and
9pm on Thursday evening before your Friday departure date. Please do not
pick up earlier or later as there are various events that are scheduled for
departing missionaries.
Furthermore, please turn in your TIWI card to
the MBM office prior to departing the mission.
Thank you so much for your exceptional
service. Prepare to “sprint to the finish,” and keep up the good work!
Please respond to this email as soon as
possible or call the mission office (508-647-6210) if you have any concerns or
questions.
Sincerely,
Sister Wilde
